Day 13 - 5/27/2001 - The Day We Conquered Rome ... so to speak
Weather: HOT (95 F) and not a cloud in the sky!
Location: Rome!
Wow! We had a busy day today! We started at the Coliseum, and it was different since I was there!
There was a center crosswalk in the inside, so that you could get a feel for what it must have been like for a gladiator to see the stadium around him.
Part of the floor of the interior had also been re-laid down. It was an incredibly in-depth tour (we had audio-guides). I have this sudden urge to watch Gladiator again! We bumped into street merchants dressed as Roman gladiators so we took our picture with him!. He was a riot!
We then wandered through the ruins of Rome, only to find that we had no idea what any of the rubble meant. As we were leaving, we bumped into a tour guide giving a free promotional tour of the ruins! We learned all about the ruins of Rome and could imagine how magnificent it must have been!
We then decided to go on the other tours they were offering (including a catacomb tour (creepy) and a Night-Rome tour (pretty). We're so impressed, that we're going on another tour of the Vatican with them tomorrow! (five hours)
