Day 9 - 5/23/2001 - Day of Austrian Folk Dancing!

Weather: Hotter and sunnier with clouds in the evening
Location: Innsbruck, Austria!

We started our day in Germany, had an incredible breakfast with eggs, bacon, liverwurst, salmon, ham, brie cheese, ambrosia, orange juice, fresh fruit and strawberry milk-shake! I ate most all of mine (and some of Hilary's too) =).

We felt refreshed as we traveled 4 hours south of Fussen to Innsbruck, Austria! It's a little city surrounded by mountains! our hotel is a little small, but it's cheap! We got in later than expected, so all we had time to do was eat an early dinner outside. I had Weener Schnitzel <sp?>! (Veal, breaded). We decided to make the most of our evening, though. We ate a quick snack at an Austrian Chili's and ran to the concert hall to see some traditional Austrian music and dancing. We went there and they seated us by nationality. I think we were the only one's there NOT eligible for a senior citizen's discount, too!

They were yodeling, slapping themselves (and even each other's ass's), chipping wood chips into the crowd, lighting things on fire, and playing all kinds of instruments.

There was a guitar, accordion, horns, that long horn you see in the Riccola commercials, a saw, a hammer dulcimer, a sitar, a table guitar and cowbells.

Oh, and the drummer kept drinking everyone's beer. He must have drunk 10 full beers (in tall whalebone glasses)! He was smiling and red-faced by the end, though.

Time for bed now, but tomorrow should be crammed with fun stuff to write about.
