Day 10 - 5/24/2001 - Day of the Alps!
Weather: Hot and mostly sunny. Afternoon sun-shower.
Location: Innsbruck, Austria
We woke up bright and early today, because we had a lot planned. We made friends with a few Americans and took an uphill train-type-thing to a cable car. Then, we got on the cable car and traveled half-way up. Then, we took a second cable-car to the tip-top of a mountain in the alps.
About half-way up, we saw some skiers, yup ... there was snow! There was a group of three of them holding hands, skiing down the mountain. It was hilarious. We see these people ski down ... down .. down .. (screaming all the way) ... and the bottom of the hill we couldn't see, so all we heard was a giant, muffled thud! It was great.
At the top, I tried to go to the summit, but it just didn't look safe. So I got a "high enough" view of the Alps with the town below. Some people were actually marching up from the bottom! It would take me days to do that!
After we got back to almost the bottom, we ate at an outdoor place overlooking the Alps! Beautiful! I had some more Weener Schnitzel!
When we finally got down to the bottom and back into town, we took a cab to "Schloss Ambras." It was a good trip. The castle was interesting, but it looked pretty modern, and it was no Newschwanstein. The park in the back was beautiful and the grass was all well-trimmed. Nice castle.
We took a shuttle back to town and went to the "Maxamalleum" (A museum of Emperor Maxamillian I). It had an informative movie (20 mins) and then a brief tour of the "last knight of Austria." Now, I'm in a "Bubble-point was salon" which is a laundry-mat/internet cafe! The keyboards are weird, though. The "z" was where the "y" should be and vice-versa. I typed things like, "bz the waz" and fun typos like that! Exciting, huh?!
Anyway, we're going to go to a restaurant that's open after 5, then we're going to drop off our sparkling, clean laundry in the lockers with our luggage.
Then, I guess we'll find a place that's open past 11! But I'll tell you how all that worked out tomorrow.
It's funny how many Americans from around the US are in here! I guess we Americans like our laundry clean and to check our e-mail.
