Day 16 - 5/30/2001 - They day of the day trip to "Lucca"

Weather: Warm, pleasant and sunny
Location: Florence, Italy (and Lucca)

We started our day by visiting the "Duomo" in Florence. It was nice! There was a nice fresco there but nothing famous.

Next, we stood in line for a half-hour to see Michelangelo's "David." It was word the "seven fiddy" to get in. It was interesting to see why David is holding his hands the way he is. He's holding a sling with a rock in one hand. Get it? David? David and Goliath? I had an epiphany at the statue. Excuse me.

Also at that museum were Mike's unfinished works. They were pretty good! It was cool to see a "work in progress." The picture of David that I took was a sneaked shot because photography was prohibited. he he. I love digital photography!

After that, we grabbed a quick lunch and decided to take a day trip out to a nice town near Pisa called "Lucca."

We wanted to ride bikes long the outside wall of the inner city (left over from the renaissance!).

When we got here, we got a little lost trying to find the information place and the bike rental. So, I asked a group of school girls where the information place was and they told me (but I think they were making fun of me!) Oh well ..

Anyway, we found the bike place and took them out for 40 minutes or so. We had a nice, relaxing 2.5 mile bike-ride!

It was the highlight of my day!
(Hilary declared today "shopping day", so I've been reading in stores.)

Oh! And we got lost on our way back to the train station, so we stopped to ask directions at what we thought was a bus station. Little did we know, but we walked in on a beginners English class! The teacher made us talk to them! It was so funny! Meanwhile (also without our knowledge) our canoli's were melting! But, after the teacher taught the class how to give us directions, we were on our way! Ha! It was so funny.
