Back in Kyoto today. Woke up at 9 am. Lasted I’ve slept since I got here. Went to a busy market to get street food for breakfast. We had tiny octopus with a quail egg stuffed in its head. We had sake and grilled salmon belly, and even some tiramisu. Then we went to a an authentic Japanese Tea Ceremony. We all got dressed in kimonos and sat on our knees which really hurt. It was very precise and formal, and they told Hilary she couldn’t sit with her knees crossed. Only the men. But it was fun and we whisked our tea very well. Got some good pictures of us in kimonos. Then we walked over to the Nintendo store in Kyoto! It was so fun with lots of stuff you can only get in the store. Off to an early dinner at Kichi Kichi Omurice which was featured on somebody feed Phil (again!) ha! The guy was a riot. And he made egg omelettes that splayed open when you cut them. Or he could flip it onto the rice in the air and make it splay open there. He was also so funny and would make jokes as he’s making the eggs. He couldn’t believe how tall Jacob was. We took a cab to these great Tory gates that seemed to go to infinity. It was very crowded but very beautiful. The lights kicked on as we were there and we heard of warnings for wild boar and bears, also there were a lot of steps, so we didn’t stay too long. We went to the top of this series of escalators at the train station and got an amazing view of the city and Kyoto tower. Then we headed back to the hotel to pack for tomorrow (but not before checking out the rooftop view from our hotel, which wasn’t bad either!
